Set up a welcome email

A welcome email is a triggered campaign that greets every new subscriber shortly after they join, and it earns its keep because new subscribers are at their most engaged right after signing up. In Boostmail, the welcome email is one of three triggered campaigns (alongside abandoned cart and the BoostPop coupon reminder): you design it once and it goes out to every new subscriber automatically.
Why a welcome email matters
The window right after someone subscribes is golden: they just chose to hear from you, so they are primed to open, click, and buy. A welcome email captures that attention, sets expectations for what you’ll send and how often, introduces your brand, and gives a reason to make a first purchase, all without you lifting a finger after setup.
Set it up
In Boostmail, open Create and choose Welcome. This creates a triggered campaign set to the Welcome event. Then:
- Design the email in the drag-and-drop editor, starting from the welcome template.
- Write the subject line. The template starts you with a subject line that greets the subscriber by first name, which you can edit.
- Set the delay, how long to wait after someone subscribes before the email goes out. Zero sends it right away.
- Choose sending hours, the time zone and daily time windows when emails may go out.
What to put in it
Because it’s one email, focus on what matters most:
- Thank them and deliver any promised incentive, such as a first-order discount code.
- Introduce your brand in a sentence or two, what makes you different, your story, or your guarantees.
- Point to your best-sellers or most-loved products with one clear call to action.
Keep it short and scannable. You can follow up later with regular email campaigns sent to a segment of recent subscribers.
Activate and refine
Send yourself a test, confirm links and any incentive code work, then activate the campaign. After it’s live, watch opens and clicks in the campaign report and adjust the subject line or content if it underperforms.
Pair it with cart recovery
A welcome email and an abandoned-cart campaign together cover your two biggest automatic wins. Once your welcome email is live, set up the abandoned-cart campaign to recover the sales that slip away at checkout.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the welcome email a single email or a series?
- It's a single triggered campaign: one welcome email sent automatically when a new subscriber joins. Boostmail doesn't have a multi-step flow builder, so make that one email count.
- Should the welcome email include a discount?
- If you promised a sign-up incentive (like a percentage off the first order), deliver it in the welcome email so you keep your promise and capture intent while it's high. If you didn't promise one, leading with brand story and best-sellers can work just as well.
- When does a subscriber get the welcome email?
- When a new customer is added in your Shopify store, for example at checkout or when you create the customer in Shopify admin. You choose the delay, so it can go out right away or a little later. Contacts you import from a file don't receive it.
- What about shoppers who grab a coupon in a popup?
- Popups are handled by BoostPop, AdPerfect's separate popup app. When a shopper grabs a coupon in BoostPop, Boostmail receives the subscriber and can send a coupon reminder, a separate triggered campaign.
- Does the welcome email run on its own?
- Yes. Once activated, it sends automatically to every new subscriber, with no manual effort.
